The first SUV in the history of the Italian brand is unveiling at the Los Angeles show. Information, images, prices and our impressions.
The Alfa Romeo Stelvio, the first SUV marketed by the Italian brand, makes its debut at the Los Angeles 2016 show, with a clear ambition to establish the brand in the US market (and a presumptuous slogan). But also to surf the wave SUV in Europe. The craft bears the name of the mythical transalpine pass. The Stelvio is based on the same platform as the recent Alfa Romeo Giulia. The latter attracted the press and customers thanks to its driving license. It bodes well for the SUV at biscione.
Not surprisingly, the newcomer capitalizes on the design of the sedan. There are many details of the Alfa Romeo Giulia: the curved wings, the triangular grille, the fires stretched … The Quadrifoglio version, presented at the Convention Center, adds four exhaust exits and clover monograms. The Stelvio measures 4.68 m, which places it in the competition universe of the Audi Q5 or the BMW X4.
Technically, the Italian SUV adopts in series an all-wheel drive called Q4. The Torque Vectoring system, consisting of two clutches in the rear differential, controls the torque supplied to each of the rear wheels. In the passenger compartment, one can settle in a low driving position, close to that of the sedan. The management promises to be very direct.
Under the hood, there is a very interesting 2-liter turbocharged petrol engine of 280 hp, attached to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The Stelvio range will be crowned by a Quadrifoglio version (2.9-liter turbo V6 developing 510 hp). According to the Italian manufacturer, this version equipped with the block developed by Ferrari would be able to set a time of less than 8 minutes on the Nürburgring. In Europe, one should also find the most prosaic Engine diesel 2.2-liter (150 to 180 hp).
If Alfa Romeo does not give the date of marketing at the moment, we should see the Stelvio arrive on our roads in 2017. The tariffs should start around 40,000 euros.
